Kelowna, B.C. &ndash; First ever Olympic gold medalist in snowboarding, Ross Rebagliati, is expecting his first child with his wife, Alexandra. Their baby is due May 12th, 2009. <br />

&nbsp;<br />
<br />
The couple were married in March of 2004 after only dating for one month. This will be the first child for both of them. Alexandra is currently three and a half months pregnant. While the doctor thinks the baby is a boy they can&rsquo;t be sure until Alexandra is 20 weeks along. <br />

&nbsp;<br />

Ross said &ldquo;we did the first ultrasound on Friday. The doctor told us the baby is healthy which is what we were hoping for. The baby was moving around non-stop during the ultrasound. We could see the baby&rsquo;s nose and little toes. It is an amazing thing to see. I can&rsquo;t wait to be a father.&rdquo;<br />

When asked if he is going encourage his son to snowboard Ross replied, &ldquo;I&rsquo;m not going to push my kid into anything but if he wants to hits the slopes I&rsquo;ll definitely be the first one to take him. It will be great to have our baby present for the 2010 Winter Olympics in my hometown of Vancouver/Whistler. The Olympics are going to be an amazing experience for everyone in Canada. When I started snowboarding you weren&rsquo;t allowed to snowboard in Canada. To see it go from that to having snowboarding in the Olympics here in less than two decades is unbelievable. Having our child there with us to see it is going to make it that much more special for us.&rdquo; <br />

Rebagliati will not be competing in the 2010 Olympics but is hoping to be involved as a commentator for the snowboarding events.&nbsp; <br />

Ross Rebagliati shot to fame in 1998 when he won the first Olympic gold medal in snowboarding only to have it stripped away two days later after testing positive to marijuana. Ross appealed the decision stating that the marijuana in his system was due to breathing in second hand smoke. Ross won his appeal and his medal back. <br />

Rebagliati is currently the Director of Snowboard and Ski Operations for Kelowna Mountain and the founder/coach of RASTA (Rebagliati Alpine Snowboard Training Academy) camps which are presently held in Canada and Italy. Ross and Alexandra split their time between Kelowna and Whistler with their two dogs Emma, a Presa Canario, and Logan, an English Bulldog. <br />

&nbsp;&nbsp; Times are changing in our Mortgage Markets, but instead of dwelling on &quot;then&quot;, home owners need to focus on and deal with &quot;now&quot;.<br />

&nbsp;&nbsp; In the past we saw discount off prime rate on new variable rate mortgages, but it will most likely take some time before we ever see a discount on a variable rate again. Also, given today&#39;s bond yields we would expect to see 5 year fixed rates around 4.00% instead of the approximate 5.50% we are currently looking at. Our rates may currently be taking some unusual turns, but moving forward rates are expected to stay somewhat stable through the last quarter. Analysts then agree that rates will most likely drop during the first part of 2009.<br />
&nbsp;<br />
&nbsp;&nbsp; Why are rates expected to drop? According to TD economist Pascal Gauthier, it is because the U.S. economy may &quot;record its worst performance in decades, retreating by around 3% in Q4, with the Canadian economy mirroring this performance with a 2.5-3.0% decline&quot;. Also, according to the consumer price index, Canada&#39;s inflation is no longer a present threat to our economy. It has been tamed. <br />
&nbsp;<br />
&nbsp;&nbsp; So where do we go from here? For those who have existing variable rates - hold them. Prime has been and will continue to fall which will save you money! Looking to get into a new mortgage? Lenders are still offering great rates on fixed 5 year terms, but if you are not comfortable with a longer term and if you believe rates will come down as expected, there is always the option of short term financing at a 6 month or 1 year term after which you can re-new at current market rates.&nbsp; <br />
